Spats are one of the most important items to prevent gravel and sand from entering the shoes when descending.
It is very stressful to have to remove your shoes every time pebbles or other debris get into your shoes, and it also consumes unnecessary energy. This is an important piece of equipment if you want to climb Mt. Fuji comfortably.
